Experiencing Social Integration Movement: A Week That Changed My Perspective
When I first heard about the Social Integration Movement project, I knew it would be something special — but I never imagined how deeply it would affect me.
From 1–8 August 2025, I joined 39 other young people from Austria, Turkey, Romania, and Georgia in the beautiful town of Pflach, Austria, for a week full of learning, discovery, and unforgettable experiences.
A Journey Beyond Borders
Our project was coordinated by Verein für Gemeinwesenarbeit und Minderheitenintegration, an organization dedicated to supporting minority rights and social inclusion. From the very first day, I could feel that this wasn’t going to be a typical seminar — it was going to be a life experience.
Through the orientation and team-building activities, we quickly broke the ice and became like a small international family. We learned to communicate not just through language, but through smiles, laughter, and respect.
Learning About Minorities and Ourselves
During the seminars, we discussed what it means to be part of a minority — not only in Austria but in each of our countries. Hearing real stories from other participants helped me understand that although our cultures are different, our challenges and dreams are often the same.
I realized how important it is for everyone to have the right to speak their own language, to protect their traditions, and to feel accepted wherever they live. It reminded me that respecting diversity makes societies stronger, not weaker.
A Colorful Week of Culture and Connection
One of my favorite moments was the cultural evenings. Every night, a different country introduced its music, dances, and traditional food. We sang Turkish songs, danced Romanian folk dances, and tried Georgian dishes — it was like traveling across Europe in just one week!
The language activities were another highlight. We taught each other simple words and sentences in our native languages, often ending up laughing at our pronunciation. But beyond the fun, it showed how language can build bridges between people.
Growing Together Through Erasmus+
Through this Erasmus+ experience, I discovered not only new cultures but also myself. I learned to step out of my comfort zone, speak up, and share my opinions confidently. Thanks to the Youthpass certificate, I could recognize how much I improved in communication, teamwork, cultural awareness, and social responsibility.
Most importantly, I learned empathy — to listen, to understand, and to respect.
A Message I’ll Carry Home
When the project ended, saying goodbye was not easy. We came as strangers, but we left as friends — connected by shared memories and a common dream of a more inclusive world.
The Social Integration Movement was not just a project; it was a powerful reminder that diversity is something to celebrate, not to fear. I’m proud to have been part of it, and I’ll continue to share what I learned with my community.
Thank you to Verein für Gemeinwesenarbeit und Minderheitenintegration for making this incredible journey possible — and for giving young people like me the chance to see the world through new eyes.
