From 1st to 8th August 2025, Austria hosted a unique platform for learning and cultural exchange for young people. Our project, Social Integration Movement, coordinated by Verein für Gemeinwesenarbeit und Minderheitenintegration, brought together 40 young participants from Austria, Turkey, Romania, and Georgia. The project aimed to help young people understand both their minority identities and the societies they live in.
The project sought to raise social awareness about minority rights. Key goals included recognizing the rights of minorities to maintain their language and culture, reducing social discrimination, and fostering intercultural dialogue. Participants evaluated minority rights in their own countries while observing the cultural and linguistic challenges minorities face in Austria.
Some of our main objectives were:
Raising awareness of minority rights and cultural diversity,
Preventing discrimination, racism, and xenophobia,
Developing empathy, social responsibility, and intercultural communication skills among young people,
Promoting cultural exchange and mutual learning,
Enhancing foreign language skills and personal development.
Throughout the project, participants engaged in various activities to adapt, learn, and interact with both local communities and peers from other countries:
Acquaintance, Cohesion, and Orientation Activities: Helped participants adapt to a new environment and connect with others.
Seminars: Explored the cultural and linguistic challenges faced by minorities and allowed participants to compare situations in different countries.
Workshops: Reinforced knowledge gained and provided opportunities to socialize with local communities.
Evaluation Studies: Monitored participants’ progress and improved the project process.
Cultural Activities: Promoted intercultural exchange and understanding.
Language Activities: Enhanced participants’ language skills through practical exercises.
Erasmus+ and Youthpass Workshops: Educated participants on the Erasmus+ program and Youthpass certificate, helping them acquire eight key competences.
The project included 40 young people, 10 from each country. Gender balance was ensured with 20 females and 20 males, and 16 participants with fewer opportunities were included. Each country group had a leader to guide activities and support participants’ engagement.
The project aimed to:
Increase cultural awareness and understanding of minority traditions and lifestyles,
Strengthen empathy and social skills such as tolerance, respect, and cooperation,
Improve foreign language proficiency and communication skills,
Foster leadership, teamwork, and personal development,
Promote international cooperation and shared learning among youth.
Participants are expected to take the experiences and lessons learned back to their communities, promoting awareness of minority rights, cultural diversity, and social responsibility.
Social Integration Movement successfully provided a platform for young people to explore cultural and linguistic diversity, develop key personal and social skills, and foster intercultural understanding. Verein für Gemeinwesenarbeit und Minderheitenintegration is proud to support youth in their journey toward promoting minority rights, empathy, and global cooperation.
